Gardaí swiftly intervened in response to a disturbance outside the residence of Minister for Integration Roderic O’Gorman last night, where banners adorned with anti-migration slogans linked to conspiracy theories were erected.

Footage circulated on social media depicted banners bearing rhetoric previously associated with protests against asylum seeker accommodation, including slogans referencing a “plantation,” a term aligned with the white nationalist Great Replacement conspiracy theory. Additionally, masked individuals were observed obstructing a vehicle from accessing the street.

In a statement provided to The Journal, Gardaí confirmed their response to the incident, stating they were alerted shortly after 8 pm to reports of a gathering outside a private residence in the Blanchardstown area. A garda presence was maintained until the group dispersed, with no arrests reported.

Politicians from various parties condemned the incident, with Social Democrats TD Jennifer Whitmore condemning the scenes as “disgusting” and asserting that such intimidation has no place in a democratic society. Green Party Senator Pauline O’Reilly expressed solidarity with Minister O’Gorman and those seeking protection in Ireland.

However, concerns were raised regarding the lack of intervention by Gardaí during the incident. Neasa Hourigan of the Green Party expressed bewilderment at the perceived inaction, while former Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger decried the harassment as “absolutely despicable.”

Labour’s Aodhán Ó Ríordáin described the scenes as “reprehensible” and criticized the deteriorating political discourse, emphasizing the need for respectful civil engagement. Sinn Féin TD Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire stressed that while differing opinions and protests are valid, targeting individuals at their homes crosses a line of decency and respect.
